The summer holidays are fast approaching, but it’s not all idyllic Instagram photos and beautiful sunsets, for some people visiting the Cycladic islands, knowing what to do when they get there can be intimidating. After all, perhaps it is your first time in Paros, or even in Greece! Where do you start?
1. BOAT CRUISE. In our opinion, the best way to see Paros in from the incredible Aegean sea. So top of our list of things to do in Paros is have a private cruise! Our favourite boat trip is around the south of the island and Antiparos, taking in the incredible waters and even visiting the sea caves. Travelling by boat gives you the opportunity to visit beaches that are only accessible from the sea and find unique swimming spots. Find cruises inclusive of food and drink and snorkeling. 2. COOKING CLASS. The way to our heart’s is definitely through our stomachs! Maybe that is why we love the private cooking class in Paros so much. Friendly local chefs comes to your accommodation or visit the chef stunning home with garden overlooking the sea and spend a glorious two hours learning how to make a classic, authentic Greek dish. Then the best bit – over a glass of wine you sample what you have created. It is not just learning a new skill, it is getting the opportunity to engage in the culture of Paros with a local.
3. EXPLORE INLAND! It is easy to visit Paros and forget to leave the coast. Parikia, Naoussa, Aliki, Piso Livadi… the coastal towns and villages are stunning and wonderful to visit to take part in the many water sports, enjoy the beach or simply wander around and soak in the atmosphere (and of course treat yourself to a drink!) But, many visitors to Paros leave without ever venturing to the interior of the island, and that is a big mistake! Some of the most picturesque parts of Paros are off the beaten track. For example, Lefkes is a stunning medieval village in the mountains with beautiful quintessential Cycladic architecture. There are wonderful artisan workshops to visit and it’s a beautiful place to relax, have a coffee and escape from the hustle of the towns. There are wineries to visit, stunning walks and festivals to learn about and participate in.
