Can I rent a boat without license?

If you don’t have a licence but still want to enjoy an incredible boating holiday, you can choose the option to rent a boat without skipper.

Today, not all the sea and boats lovers have a boat licence. But it’s not a reason to get down because nowadays you can rent bareboat with no licence required and basic boating skills needed.

Bareboat charter is simply a boat rented without a skipper or crew. A bareboat charter means you will need to skipper and navigate the boat yourself. Depending on your experience a bareboat charter is a big responsibility – you are responsible for the safety of everyone on board.

For a day boat rental a small boat is normally considered to be between 4 and 10 metres in length.

They are slow compared to other boats on the water, limited in terms of the distance you can travel, and normally cost less than €200 per day. Boats that have an engine with a horsepower of less than 30hp (15hp for inflatable boats) qualify as “bateaux sans permis”.

All you need to rent the boat is a sense of adventure and credit card for the deposit. You will be required to sign a liability release and should you damage the boat in any way you will be responsible for all cost associated with the repair of the boat.

You can set your own itinerary while boating, spend a day on the water soaking up the sun and relaxing on a private boat with your favourite people.
